RUEF General Meeting, 17-18 December 2013, Saint Petersburg

RUEF General Meeting hosted by ExpoForum-International Ltd was held on December, 17-18 in St. Petersburg.


 


In the course of the two-day session participants of the meeting discussed formal issues including elections and organizational issues. Several discussions on economic and exhibition industry topics were held as well.


The meeting was officially opened by the welcome address of the RUEF President Sergey Alexeev and it was followed by addresses by representatives of St. Petersburg government and business associations.


Formal Issues. Admittance and Elections


Sergey Alexeev, Director General of Expoforma-Service (St. Petersburg) was reelected as RUEF President.


Sergey Bednov, Director General of Expocentre (Moscow), Valeriy Barulin, Director General of Nizhny Novgorod Fair (Nizhny Novgorod), and Vladimir Tabachnikov, Director General of Kuzbass Fair (Novokuznetsk) were elected as RUEF Vice Presidents.


The approved list of the RUEF Board of Directors’ members is following:

Liudmila Smorodova remains the RUEF Executive Director.


Sergey Alexeev and Liudmila Smorodova presented reports on their work during the period since the last elections and the strategy of development of the Union in 2014-2016.

Several RUEF internal operation issues were also discussed during the Meeting.

 

Andrei Zhukovsky, Director General of RussCom IT Systems Ltd, Moscow, told the participants of the meeting about the progress of development of the All-Russian Exhibition Rating and Regional Exhibtion Rating operated by his company and approved by RUEF and RF CCI.

 

Alexander Gerasin, Director General of SpasInvest Ltd, St. Petersburg, gave a presentation on fire safety measures during public events.

 

Three panel discussions were held on the second day:

 

  • “Russian Exhibitions and Congresses as a Tool for Promoting Goods and Services Made in Russia”

 

Moderated by Alexey Yakovlev, head of Department of development of foreign trade activities and public relations of the St. Petersburg Government.


Igor Nikolaev, Director of the Institute of Strategic Analysis of FBK, professor at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow, presented a report on the current state of the Russian economy.


Aida Ter-Arutyunova, advisor of Department of exhibitions and coordination of foreign economic activity of the Ministry of industry and trade of the RF, told the participants of the meeting about the draft of the Concept of development of exhibition and convention activities in Russia.


Gennady Karnavin, Deputy Director of the Department of the exhibition and congress activities of the RF CCI, informed the delegates about the current state of preparations for the discussion of exhibition and convention issues in Russian parliament, which will be held next year.


Alexander Romanov, President of the Russian Union of Metal and Steel Suppliers, shared his view of the role of industrial associations in the development of exhibition industry in Russia.


Alexey Mikushko, Director General of the All-Russian Exhibition Centre, Moscow, gave a report on the development of cooperation with the CIS countries in the sphere of exhibition and congress activities.

 

  • “Challenges Facing the Exhibition Industry. Exhibitions of Tomorrow: How Should They Develop”

 

The discussion was moderated by Sergey Alexeev, RUEF President, Director General of Expoforma-Service, St.Petersburg, who told the participants about the current trends in the global economy and exhibition industry, its prospects and challenges.


During this panel discussion presentations were given by Andrey Levitan, Director General of Expo-Volga, Samara, and Andrey Maslak, Director General of ExpoMediaGroup “Staraya Krepost”.

 

  • “Modern Technologies Serving the Exhibition Industry”

 

Moderator: Serguei Trofimov, President, RESTEC Exhibition Company JSC, St. Petersburg.


The discussion included presentations by Tomas Stenzel, Director General of Messe Duesseldorf Moscow, Sergei Voronkov, Director General of ExpoForum-International Ltd, St. Petersburg, Eugen Alles, Director General of Messe Frankfurt RUS, Moscow, and Pyotr Gritsenko, Director General of Baltic Expo, Kaliningrad.


All the presentations given during panel discussions were highly appreciated by participants of the Meeting.


The social program of the Meeting included an excursion to the construction site of the new ExpoForum exhibition and congress centre and visit to the Pushkin suburb of St. Petersburg.


Next RUEF General Meeting will be hosted by Expocentre, Moscow, in June 2014.
