RUEF General Meeting, December 10, 2014, Kazan

RUEF General Meeting hosted by Kazanskaya Yarmarka JSC was held on December 10, in Kazan.

 


The representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, National Research University Higher School of Economics, and Jбnos Barabas, UFI Vice-president and the Chair of UFI Associations Committee, took part in RUEF General Meeting.


RUEF Committees and RUEF Board of Directors meetings took place on December 9, before the opening of the Meeting.


RUEF President Sergey Alexeev officially opened the Meeting. Lev Semenov, Director General of Kazanskaya Yarmarka JSC, greeted the delegates.


In his introductory speech, RUEF President Sergey Alexeev noted that the most important moves for those engaged in the Russian exhibition industry in 2014 were:

  • the approval by the Government of the Russian Federation of the Concept of exhibition, trade fair and congress activities development in the Russian Federation and the commencement of its implementation;
  • the election of RUEF President Sergey Alexeev as UFI Incoming President;
  • the publication of RUEF Statistical Survey “Audited Trade Shows 2013” on UFI website, which again confirms the complete harmonization of Russian standards with the international norms;
  • the first edition of bilingual electronic “RUEF Exhibition Centres” and its publication on RUEF and UFI websites.

 

Vice Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan Almaz Shaukatov made a report on the state and prospects of development of the Republic of Tatarstan economy.


During the Meeting issues concerning the Union internal operation were discussed. The new (fifth) version of the RUEF Charter was adopted, the issues of RUEF membership and Logo were addressed.


RUEF proudly welcomed its new members:

  • exhibition organizers – Exhibition Company GreenExpo, Ltd, Moscow; Exhibition Company Mir-Expo, LLC, Moscow; CRIMEA EXPO, LLC, Simferopol; Individual Entrepreneur Kolesov Yury Vasilyevich, Moscow; Business Dialogue, LLC, Moscow;
  • a service provider – MULTIEXPO, LLC, St.Petersburg.

UFI member VertolExpo, Exhibition Center Ltd., Rostov-on-Don, withdrew from RUEF.


According to the results of the routine audit 2014 RUEF Logo was confirmed for 24 trade shows for the high level of organization and high value for the economy of a region.


RUEF Logo, earlier granted to the exhibitions “Holy Russia (Moscow)” and “Tekhnodrev”, “RESTEC” Exhibition Company” Ltd., St.Petersburg, terminated following the default of the routine audit.


RUEF members approved the report on the Union activities in 2014 delivered by RUEF Executive Director Liudmila Smorodova, the Plans of RUEF activities and financial and business operations in 2015 were adopted.


In the report on the preparation of proposals to the project of fundamental principles of the Concept of federal law “On the exhibition, trade fair and congress activities in the Russian Federation” it was noted that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and EXPOCENTRE ZAO, prepared the project of fundamental principles of the Concept of federal law “On the exhibition, trade fair and congress activities in the Russian Federation”. RUEF Executive department worked on the acquisition and systematization of RUEF members’ proposals to the above-noted project. The project of fundamental principles of the Concept, and the proposals of RUEF members and industries associations will be forwarded to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation in the 1st quarter of 2015.


In the report on industrial buildings and structures reconstruction for their usage as exhibition complexes Vladimir Tabachnikov, RUEF Vice-president, Director General of Kuzbass Fair JSC, shared his experience referring to the purchase of ownership of land, buildings and structures of industrial type, performance of all kinds of work to create the infrastructure indispensable for organizing trade shows and business events. He addressed the issues of determining the sources and volumes of financing, creation of opportunities for the multifunctional usage of venues.


Andrew Zhukovsky, member of RUEF Board of Directors, Director General of Russcom IT Systems, told the Meeting participants about 10 years of exhibition audit in Russia and its importance for the whole exhibition community. He noted that for 10 years Russcom IT Systems has performed 1000 audits on the total square of 6 669 000 m2; for the last 3 years – 211 audits on the total square of 1 486 000 m2. Thus, business community and government have authoritative information about 52% of exhibition venues built in Russia (taking into consideration the maximum estimate of 2,6 mln. m2). The next step was logically the creation of All-Russia trade shows rating – a marketing instrument that allows distinguishing the most effective trade shows across the regions of the Russian Federation among the 55 industries presented. All-Russia trade shows rating 2012-2013 included 432 trade shows. Today the main tasks facing exhibition audit in Russia are further audit promotion, further perfection of inspection rules, and audit of trade show effectiveness and its buyer potential.


Following the results of RUEF General Meeting, Committees and Board of Directors meetings decisions were made aimed at the perfection of forms and methods of the Union and its members work.


A remarkable event within the framework of the General Meeting was the panel discussion “On the new challenges to the exhibition and congress industry in Russia”. During the discussion, the speakers addressed the following issues:

  • How can one stay successful in the current economic and political circumstances?
  • How can we determine the advantageous topics of trade shows aimed at solving the urgent tasks of state policy – import substitution, raising competitiveness of domestic enterprises’ products?
  • How should trade shows be developed, and trade shows’ effectiveness and service quality be increased?
  • How can one avoid losing stakeholders?

 

RUEF President Sergey Alexeev moderated the panel discussion. He made a report on “New challenges to the Russian exhibition industry”.


The speakers included:

  • Konstantin Kim, Chief of the System analysis and foreign economic activities department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Moscow;
  • Igor Nikolayev, Doctor of Science (Economics), professor of the Chair of applied macroeconomics of National Research University Higher School of Economics, Director of the Strategic analysis department of FBK Grant Thornton, Moscow;
  • Igor Korotin, Director of the Trade fair activity department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Moscow;
  • Jбnos Barabas, UFI Vice-president, the Chair of UFI Associations Committee, Budapest, Hungary;
  • Valeriy Barulin, RUEF Vice-president, Director General of Nizhegorodskaya Yarmarka All-Russia JSC, Nizhny Novgorod;
  • Irina Lyubina, Director General of PRIMEXPO Ltd., St.Petersburg;
  • Vera Ermilova, Director General of Dalexpocentre, Ltd., Vladivostok;
  • Andrew Shapovalov, Director General of SibExpoCentre OJSC, Irkutsk.

 

Following the results of the discussion there were elaborated recommendations to be forwarded to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, industries associations, and RUEF members.


The General Meeting was completed by a varied interesting social programme.


Next RUEF General Meeting will be hosted by SOUD – Sochi Exhibitions JSC, Sochi, in June,  2015.
